The Power of Video Testimonials

When Lisa & Doug Rodriguez hired me to be their wedding videographer 20 years ago, I had no idea this would happen.

What a wonderful, gracious couple! I taped their wedding 20 years ago and didn’t see Lisa again until a coincidental encounter at a local networking club. She recognized my name as I was introduced…Long story short, twenty years later we began another project together – a life history memorial video for her recently deceased grandfather, Wayne… an interesting circle of events, to be sure. Lisa was thrilled because I had taped Wayne at her wedding reception and now we could use those clips in his memorial video.

I asked if Lisa and Doug would do a video testimonial for me and they graciously consented. The video below is the edit that I produced of their testimonial about working with me as their videographer.

I record testimonials not only for my own company, but for all businesspeople who understand their power on websites and social media. There is nothing as persuasive as a testimonial from a happy client to build credibility and help other people appreciate the value of one’s work. Thank you so very much, Lisa and Doug! I’m grateful for your generosity.

In the couple’s own words:

“Joyful tears is what was created by the video montage Marc Gold produced for the Celebration of Life – honoring my 95 year old grandfather’s recent passing. Marc had filmed  my wedding  20 years ago and had captured the essence of my family and friends that we have come to cherish more with each passing year.

As fate would have it, our paths randomly reconnected at a local community event and when I shared my idea of telling my grandfather’s story on video …he was the natural choice.  Because Marc had interviewed my grandfather at my wedding 20 year prior,  I was able to incorporate that interview into the memorial video. It’s a priceless treasure that will be shared for many generations.  Marc is insightful and very skilled not only with the camera, but with the editing as well. He listens, and he cares very deeply for his clients.

The best decision we made was to hire Marc with all the craziness going on in planning our wedding or any event for that matter.  Doug and I wholeheartedly recommend Marc Gold and 24KT Sound & Video.  You’ll be moved and amazed with the results, just like we are.”

(HCHG) Spring Mixer – Video Production for Meetings, Seminars and Trade Shows

Well attended and buzzing with networking activity, this year’s Harbor City Harbor Gateway Spring Mixer brought together 100+ business people from around the South Bay of L.A. for an evening of education and relationship-building for the attendees.

Producing this particular video (available below) was an act of appreciation for Joeann Valle, Executive Director of the chamber, the inspiration behind the mixer and dedicated advocate for business growth and prosperity. So, Joeann, this one’s for you. I know it will bring more attention to the chamber and the positive results it’s having in the community.

Greeting by Dr. Sam Rehnborg of Nutrilite – Corporate Video

It felt like a family reunion more than a corporate video production being back at the Nutrilite facility in Buena Park, CA to record Dr.Sam Rehnborg, long time friend and President of Nutrilite, the food supplement division of the Amway Corporation. I asked Cameron Tucker to handle the 2nd camera. Cameron shot the “California Gold” programs for Huell Howser in Huell’s last years and is also a long time friend and fellow cinematographer. We trucked in the cameras, lights, teleprompter and audio equipment, and the set was finished an hour or so later. Along with Dr. Sam were several Amway independent business owners who were present for interviews and testimonials. I had the locked-down two-shot during the testimonial and Cameron did the close-ups. Editing was completed two weeks later. The set looked great, adorned with several of the Nutrilite Products as we began what was to be about a 3 hour shoot. Dr. Sam’s greeting is provided for your viewing enjoyment below.

Business Videos that Add Perceived Value

FROM START TO FINISH

Clients who only see the end result of the work that we do tend to undervalue the process and may object to the cost. That’s when a business video that shows the process from start to finish can put in perspective the scope of the work, making it easier for people to appreciate the value.

In my own business I’ve heard it more than once: “You charge WHAT?! for a 60 second video!?” (A brief explanation about the 30 hours of editing usually takes care of the objection).

Below is an example of a video that illustrates a process. It’s no longer difficult for clients of charming and very personable Imani Williams of Platinum Candy Buffets to understand the work that goes into creating a magnificent wedding dessert buffet as she goes through the process from empty table to work of art in this entertaining 90 second video:

Website Video Production – Feeding the Videocentric Generation

Marc Gold, 24KT Sound & Video
Marc Gold: 24KT Sound & Video

Those of you who have read my posts before know that my South Bay video production company, 24KT Sound & Video, exists to help businesses create video content that communicates with a generation of videocentric consumers.

“Videocentric” and the related term, “videocentricity” describe a generation of consumers that thrive on a steady diet of internet video to get all their information about the outside world – a compulsion brought about by the proliferation of video-enabled technology and social media networks that are very adept at sharing information.

Fortunately, the compulsion is benign and easily identified by its tell-tale posture: curved spine with face hovering over a smart phone or tablet. Oblivious to the outside world, videocentrics are often unable to respond to external stimuli because of ear-blocking headgear. If afflicted at a young age, one might imagine that their long term prognosis is carpal tunnel, stenosis and gradual loss of hearing. However, in the short term, business owners can capitalize on the compulsion by feeding the hunger it creates with website video.

Videocentrics are driven by a basic principle of human nature which states that no one in their right mind EVER does anything in the most difficult, time-consuming way possible if there is a quicker, easier alternative, as would be the case with watching videos as opposed to reading text, making website video a very compelling attraction.

Given the same content in both printed form and in a video, only 2 out of 10 videocentrics will read the text to completion while 8 out of 10 will watch the entire video, retain the information longer and act upon it more positively. Furthermore, if the intent of the business is to sell a product or service, there is a 74% better chance of success after watching a video on the subject.

There is no cure for videocentricity. The best result that can be hoped for is to reach the videocentric with media that feeds the compulsion, and make it tempting by putting it within reach.

If your business has a future, there is going to be a video in it sooner or later. Be an early adapter and reach out to the videcentric generation. IF YOU PUT VIDEO ON YOUR WEBSITE…THEY WILL COME.

Instructional and Training Videography in L.A.

Hot off the press...this brand new instructional and training video for SCGMA, is one of the many genres of commercial productions we create at 24KT.  This one has been a long time in the making with lots of back-and-forth revising for the client, but well worth the effort. It was a two camera production with lots of interesting shots showing the installation of huge glass windows into industrial buildings. The video is currently featured on our home page at www.24ktsound.com, and we include it here as well for your enjoyment.

Love at Any Age – Regina and Charles’ Wedding Video Highlight

Savor this lovingly delicious wedding video highlight for the rare delicacy that it is.

A last minute referral put me at the Doubletree Hotel in San Pedro behind the video camera at Charles and Regina’s wedding ceremony and reception…a young-at-heart couple in their 60’s.

Hours later as the event was concluding I found myself thinking what a poignant reminder this experience was of why I’m in the wedding video production business, and the  joy that comes with it, but even more important than that, I was privileged that day to witness and record the promise of new love at an age when it might not be expected, and I took comfort in the thought that throughout one’s life, endless beginnings are possible.

This video is my special gift to you. Share it freely. It brings hope when life becomes difficult.

Video Production of Live Shows and Demo Reels in Los Angeles

Check out the demo reel of 7 year old Lauren Gavitt as “Oliver” at the Rose Center Theater in Westminster, CA., the second reel we produced for her, and the review from Lauren’s mom, Christie, for which I’m eternally grateful (the video follows below):

“We hired Marc with 24KT Sound & Video for the first time this past November to film our 7 year old daughter in “Annie” where she played “Molly,”and then have him prepare a demo for her acting reel… The footage he got of our daughter was amazing!

Did I mention that when we put the demo reel he made, up on our daughter’s casting websites, she booked her first job? Well, she did! We put the reel up on a Friday and she booked her first job on Monday. He captured just what we needed and wanted…some acting, some singing, and some dancing…and he nailed it!

My daughter’s agent is thrilled. She said the footage was, “phenomenal!”  He is truly a professional in every sense of the word and he has the experience you want for outstanding results.

If you or your theater company are looking to have a show filmed, you need to contact Marc at 24KT Sound & Video. You will be so happy you did! And if you are an actor???? He will make you shine!”

Why Website Video Works – Corporate Video Production in L.A.

Marc Gold, 24KT Sound & Video
Marc Gold, Owner of 24KT Sound & Video

Website video can build trust:

You never know what kind of history your website visitors may bring with them based on past on-line experiences. They may be very trusting, or very skeptical. You can, however, anticipate that you’ll need to quickly establish that your website represents a real business with a human being behind it who’s going to provide outstanding service, and because you can’t actually be there in person to do that, the content you put on your site has to do it for you, and therein lies the challenge. Do it right and your website content will build that trust, do it wrong and you’ll drive visitors off in frustration to one of your competitors just a mouse-click away. Because you’re not there in person to look people in the eye, shake their hand, counter objections, educate and close the sale, you need to do the next best thing. That’s where a website video can be your greatest asset. Video comes as close as you can get to a face-to-face conversation without your actually being there, and can be as effective as speaking directly to a customer in your place of business. Here’s why:

Conversation is much more than words:

During face-to-face conversation we all make subconscious judgements about what we see and hear by continuously evaluating the tone of voice, eye contact, posture, facial expressions, and hand and arm movements of the person speaking. These signals help us sort out what’s believable and whether or not what we’re hearing is trustworthy. Unfortunately, the text on your website doesn’t contain these crucial signals. Website video, on the other hand, does. Your video is the face and voice of your business representing you 24/7 by demonstrating, educating, motivating and building credibility. Credibility leads to trust. People respond positively to websites they trust.

Having to dig for information:

Assuming that no one ever intentionally chooses the most difficult, time-consuming way to do anything when there’s an easier way in plain sight, your website should make it easy for people to find what they’re looking for, and it’s clearly easier to sit back and absorb content by watching a short video than by reading through paragraphs of text. Research indicates that only 2 out of 10 people will read to completion what you write anyway, (8 out of 10 will watch a video to completion) and if your written content antagonizes people sufficiently, they’ll simply leave your site. You have about 7-10 seconds to capture attention and engage your visitor, and a much better chance of doing so with an entertaining, informational 30 second video.

The signs of success:

Ideally, your website content should lead visitors to visualize themselves using and benefiting from your product or service and wind up saying to themselves, “That’s the answer I’ve been looking for. I think I’ll contact them.”

After all, we’re living in a video generation where video-enabled mobile devices abound. Video has risen to the number one way of giving and receiving information and the social networks exist that make it easy to share that information. Your future customers are growing up using video to entertain themselves, but more importantly to communicate, to learn, to share, and to purchase. Learn to speak their language on your website and reap the rewards.
